Through a number of interviews with people that became blind later in life, the amazing concept artists, WE ARE X, recorded these people’s intimate experiences with lights and color.
The purpose of the project is to encourage and actively facilitate interdisciplinary experiments in the field of visual perception and juxtapose the empirical embodiment of experience wit the indisputable world of scientific evidence and the emerging algorithmic gaze, brought forth by screen readers and web bots.
We were honored to be invited to participate in this unique art project. Our part was to try to bring to life, or rather emulate, the description of their experience as visually impaired individuals, of 3 different participants, PAUL , SIMON and DAMON.
Their narration alone (in Dutch and translated to English) was truly an experience that surprised us and forced us to reexamine certain notions of vision and the visual experience.
The project has traveled to 3 museums in Netherlands.
